Roy Blunt Reservoir

Better By Design, LLC holds an IDIQ contract for work on this important drinking water reservoir that will one day furnish drinking water for ten counties in Northern Missouri. Crews have removed household solid waste, constructed a staging area for collected debris, managed a large clearing contract, and constructed four miles of new roads above the eventual high-water mark of the lake. The work has been awarded through approximately twenty task orders that have included approximately 900,000 CY of excavation and placement of roughly 60,000 tons of riprap.

Saylorville Erosion Protection Project

Better By Design, LLC crews constructed haul roads, accomplished clearing and grubbing activities, and placed approximately 100,000 tons of shot rock and riprap along the shoreline of this lake near Des Moines, Iowa. The project also included placing 18,000 tons of bedding stone and surface gravel on the service roads.

Mill Creek Emergency Rock Placement

In 2019, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers called upon Better By Design, LLC crews to place over 550,000 tons of shot rock in three different scour holes near Tarkio, Missouri. The six-month contract required the company to mobilize in three days and work seven days a week reinforcing levees, building emergency access roads, and placing riprap in addition to filling the scour holes.

Gregory Levee PL84-99 Repairs

The Rock Island District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Better By Design, LLC this contract in late 2018.  Initially, the work involved clearing and grubbing, regrading levees, and placement of about 18,000 tons of riprap. The flood of 2019 interrupted the work and when the water receded, a contract modification added filling scour holes and rebuilding damaged levees.  The project also included the re-establishment of turf at the completion of the project.

New Madrid Levee Surfacing

The Memphis District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Better By Design, LLC this contract in 2020. The project included resurfacing 32 miles of levee top with gravel. Crews placed the rock, graded it, and compacted it.

Southwest Jefferson County EPA Restoration

EPA – Region 7 contracted with Better By Design, LLC to complete 55 residential properties that had been abandoned by a previous contractor. Crews met with the affected property owners and listened to their concerns. Each location was then backfilled, graded, and sodded/seeded.

Plating, Inc. Remedial Action – EPA Region 7

EPA – Region 7 contracted with Better By Design, LLC for demolition and remediation services for an abandoned chromium plating facility in Great Bend, KS. Crews are demolishing the existing building, hauling contaminated materials to a distant landfill for disposal, and installing sheet piling so approximately 2,300 CY of chromium-contaminated soil can be removed. The excavated soil will be stabilized and then hauled to the local landfill for disposal. The site will be backfilled and revegetated.

Big River Mine Tailings OU2 Pilot Study Maintenance

EPA – Region 7 contracted with Better By Design, LLC for ongoing maintenance work at this site on Big River in St. Francois County, MO. Work includes brush hogging, herbicide application, debris removal, and the armoring of the bank of Big River.

Missouri Electrical Works Remedial Action Maintenance Services – EPA Region 7

EPA – Region 7 hired Better By Design, LLC for ongoing monitoring, well sampling, testing, and the construction of a service road to the previously remediated facility. The entry road includes clearing, grading, drainage, and asphalt paving.

Mark Twain Lake Shoreline Protection

The St. Louis District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Better By Design, LLC a contract to place approximately 3,000 tons of betting stone and riprap on the shoreline of Mark Twain Lake for shoreline protection.

Trost and Borchardt Wetland Construction – Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

The USDA-NRCS contracted with Better By Design, LLC to build wetlands in North Central Kansas. The project involved the construction of berms and ditches along with the installation of water control structures. Crews graded five miles of new levees and used GPS controlled equipment to leave the levees within two-tenths of design grade.

Campground Reconstruction – Redman Creek, Wappapello, Missouri

Better By Design, LLC is the design-builder for the reconstruction of this popular campground.  The project involves demolition of the existing campground and regrading 73 campsites. The new sites will be served by new water and sewer connections and the campsites are being improved with new fire rings, tables, BBQ grills, and concrete camper pads.

Mark Twain Lake Comfort Station Consolidation – Monroe City, Missouri

Better By Design, LLC is the design-builder for the reconstruction of five shower houses and bathrooms around Mark Twain Lake. This project involved the demolition of the existing structures, site restoration, abandonment, and removal. Crews rerouted existing utilities to include water, sewer, electric, and telecommunications. Other work included installation of sidewalks, revisions to the parking and access roads, site preparation and installation for the new precast concrete buildings.

Campground Reconstruction – Table Rock State Park, Branson, Missouri

Better By Design, LLC is currently under contract with the State of Missouri to reconstruct 22 campsites at Campground #2 at Table Rock State Park. The work involves new drinking water service connections, new gravity sewer lines, concrete pads at each site, and a new water booster station.
